IUI PROCEDURE

Before IUI is performed, our Fertility Specialist at Bloom Fertility Clinic will test and evaluate the quality of the sperm specimen. For patients who have chosen a sperm donor, the sperm is also tested for HIV and any communicable diseases. Once sperm has been cleared, the first step in the IUI procedure involves sperm washing, which separates the healthy sperm from the seminal fluid. This step can provide a more concentrated and effective sample. Once your eggs are determined to be mature, our fertility specialist will inject the sperm. A highly concentrated amount of the most motile sperm are placed in the uterine cavity via a small catheter. The insemination is virtually painless and will only last about 20 minutes.
